The RES Master’s (MA/MSc) Program
The Master’s program is a 2 year, full-time program that provides students with the opportunity to broaden their academic and research experience. The student’s background, the selection of the thesis topic, the approach to research, and the program electives govern whether the Master’s of Art (MA) or Master’s of Science (MSc) degree program is pursued. A research investigation producing a scholarly contribution to the particular area of study is necessary.
The Master’s degree requirement is a minimum of 30 credits which includes a 12-credit thesis course (RES 599) and 18 credits of graduate or upper level (300-499) undergraduate coursework. There are approximately 30 Master’s students in the RES program at any given time. To learn more about the Master’s Program, please click here.
The RES Doctoral (PhD) Program
The doctoral (PhD) program provides a student with demonstrated academic and research ability an opportunity to develop and strengthen his/her research capabilities and knowledge to a more advanced level. The doctoral thesis involves intensive research resulting in an original and scholarly contribution to knowledge in a field of study. The candidate is expected to initiate and conduct the research program under general direction of a supervisor and general supervision by a graduate supervisory committee. The program, because of its comprehensive nature, normally requires 4 to 5 years for completion. Click here to see the suggested timeline for completion of a doctoral program.
