Bio

Isabela (she/her) is a first-year PhD student at IRES, under the supervision of Dr. Hannah Wittman. Her background is in interdisciplinary studies with a focus on Agroecology and Community-Based Research in Brazil, where she grew up, and in Latin America more broadly. Since August 2024, Isabela has been engaged as the Brazil site research coordinator for the international research project Agroecology for Climate Resilience, funded by the New Frontiers in Research Fund and coordinated by Dr. Hannah Wittman (UBC), in collaboration with partner universities in Brazil, Germany, and India. Her doctoral research will be situated within and contribute to this broader project, working with farming communities and policymakers in two regions in southeastern Brazil, Peruíbe-SP and Presidente Prudente-SP, to assess factors that may influence agroecological transitions to address the climate crisis and strengthen food security and climate resilience.
