Bio

Mina is an MSc student in IRES (Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability) exploring the intersection of wildfire smoke, public health and spatial analysis. She is supervised by Tina Liu of the EMBRS (Environmental Modelling, oBservations, and Remote Sensing) lab, housed in the Department of Geography. Mina combines methods from environmental science, spatial epidemiology, and computational modelling to study how air pollution shapes health outcomes, and how communities respond and adapt to fire and smoke.

She earned her BSc at UBC, with a double major in Cognitive Systems (concentration in brain and cognition) and Environmental Sciences (concentration in sustainability). Her undergraduate capstone in the EMBRS lab used spatial modelling to estimate the impact of wildfire smoke PM2.5 exposure on dementia risk across British Columbia, identifying regional hotspots and trends across fire seasons. You can also often find Mina knitting, exploring the outdoors, live music, biking and hiking.
