Bio
Shirley (Yuhui) is a Master of Science student at the Institute for Resources, Environment, and Sustainability, co-supervised by Dr. Stephanie Chang and Dr. Mark Johnson. Her research focuses on extreme heat planning on the UBC Vancouver campus, where she is projecting long-term heat risks and simulating different response strategies through GIS-based vulnerability mapping, agent-based modeling, and other computational approaches to strengthen disaster resilience.
Before coming to UBC, she received a double undergraduate degree in Informatics (B.Sc.) and Environmental Studies (B.A.) from the University of Washington, Seattle. Drawing on her background in information technology and data analysis, she has a passion in building disaster-resilient and sustainable communities through these skills. Outside of school, she enjoys traveling, climbing, running, ceramics, yoga, and spending time in nature!
