EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD) is seeking post-doctoral applicants in the social sciences to support actions to increase the integration of social sciences in Air, Climate, and Energy (ACE) research activities, acting within the Environmental Public Health Division (EPHD), National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL). ACE and NHEERL have developed a set of activities intended to build capacity in the social sciences and connections with social science resources both within and outside of the Agency. The activities include: 1) conduct and evaluation of interdisciplinary research which incorporates social science disciplines; 2) communication of social science theories, methods, models, and tools to a broad community of environmental sciences; 3) facilitation of interdisciplinary social and environmental science teams, including development of interdisciplinary conceptual models, crossing disciplinary language barriers, developing cross-training programs, and developing integrated budgets and timelines; 4) development of internal and external networks of social science expertise to provide a resource for interdisciplinary problem formulation and research planning; 5) coordinating with EPA information technology experts to assess systems for collecting and sharing data across interdisciplinary teams; 6) synthesizing results from interdisciplinary research to translate research into actionable information which can inform decision-making; 7) engaging with stakeholder groups to deliver actionable research through focused outreach activities.
