Dr. Carly Nichols is currently recruiting graduate students (PhD or Masters) for the 2021-22 academic year. Her research agenda uses political ecology and feminist methods to examine the intersections between agri-food system change and embodied perceptions of health in South Asia and the Upper Midwest. She has ongoing projects examining mental health concerns among female identifying farmers in Iowa, COVID-19’s impacts on Iowa’s local food system, and gendered impacts of COVID in agrarian India. The University of Iowa Department of Geographical and Sustainability Sciences (GSS) offers competitive fully funded positions to qualified candidates for the 2020-21 academic year. Candidate will have the opportunity to TA for a variety of human geography courses as well as be eligible for several RA opportunities in future years. GSS has strengths in Geographic Information Systems, Urban Ecology, Environmental Hazards, and Land-Use Change and adjacent University of Iowa departments have strengths in indigenous studies, gender and sexuality studies, and rhetoric.
