Dr. Carly Nichols is currently recruiting graduate students (PhD or Masters) for the 2021-22 academic year. Her research agenda uses political ecology and feminist methods to examine the intersections between agri-food system change and embodied perceptions of health in South Asia and the Upper Midwest. She has ongoing projects examining mental health concerns among female identifying farmers in Iowa, COVID-19’s impacts on Iowa’s local food system, and gendered impacts of COVID in agrarian India. People with research interests that broadly align with her work are encouraged to contact her with a brief statement of their interests and a current CV. The University of Iowa Department of Geographical and Sustainability Sciences (GSS) offers competitive fully funded positions to qualified candidates for the 2020-21 academic year. Candidate will have the opportunity to TA for a variety of human geography courses as well as be eligible for several RA opportunities in future years. GSS has strengths in Geographic Information Systems, Urban Ecology, Environmental Hazards, and Land-Use Change and adjacent University of Iowa departments have strengths in indigenous studies, gender and sexuality studies, and rhetoric.
