October 2, 2020: The Ethics of Publishing Webinar

The Ethics of Publishing

When: Friday, October 2, 2020 – 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM

Publishing in academic journals is crucial for academic knowledge dissemination and can enhance your academic CV. However, the academic publishing landscape is complex and navigating this system can be challenging for scholars and authors.

In this webinar, you will:

  • gain insight into the academic publishing system
  • learn about impact of open access
  • review predatory publishing practices
  • and discuss ethical guidelines of publishing including assigning authorship and competing interests when choosing a journal to submit your article to

The webinar will start with a presentation by library staff followed by a panel including two current graduate students. They will address the following questions:

  • How to address the pressure to publish in high-impact journals for a potential academic career track?
  • How to navigate the conversation with supervisors regarding publishing?

There will be ample time for discussion with presenters and panelists.
