By desire or necessity, many of us will end up in non-academic careers. But what does that mean, exactly? Given your strengths, work methods, and values, what sort of roles might be most fulfilling for you? In this seminar, we’ll hear from professionals with a range of organizational backgrounds about their experiences in the workforce.

Sonja Wilson advises governments, institutions, utilities, and developers on developing sustainable infrastructure and energy projects with Reshape Strategies. She is an IRES alumni and professional mechanical engineer. She has over ten years of experience in thermal energy systems, including five years of experience in the planning, design and construction of District Energy Systems.

Dylan Heerema

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dylan Heerema is a member of the Pembina Institute’s remote communities team. At the Institute, he has been involved with the development of B.C.’s Energy Step Code, advising governments and communities on energy efficiency and renewable energy, and participating in utility resource planning and demand-side management bodies. Dylan is an electrical engineer and holds a master’s degree in clean energy engineering from the University of British Columbia.

Adrian Semmelink is an Agrologist with the BC Ministry of Agriculture. After graduating from IRES last year, Adrian worked as a Program Analyst for the Ministry of Agriculture before moving to his current role. He has worked on consultation, design, implementation, and evaluation for programs that serve new and existing farmers and ranchers, indigenous communities, and commodity associations. In his new role, he is focusing on programs and projects for new farmers and ranchers.
