Sustainable Fashion Week Presented by the UBC Sustainability Initiative
Monday, October 28, 2019 to Wednesday, October 30, 2019
Sustainable Fashion Week is an opportunity for students, staff and faculty at UBC to learn more about the social and environmental issues surrounding the “fast fashion” industry, and to explore alternatives including sustainable buying, clothing repair and reuse, and textile recycling.
See below our series of events or visit sustain.ubc.ca/sfw to find out more.
October 28: Fashion for ‘Good’
We live in a time where environmentally conscious consumerism can have a big impact on the way goods are produced and distributed. Join in with our panel as we dig into what it’s really like to run a sustainable and ethical fashion brand, and the unique and rewarding challenges it brings. Panelists include representatives from Patagonia and Bellantoni, among others. Tickets include a free pizza lunch.
October 29: The True Cost
We’re kicking off the second event of Sustainable Fashion Week with a film screening of The True Cost. The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion as we pull back the curtains and discuss transparency in the fashion supply chain over popcorn. Panelists include representatives from Frameworq and Arc’teryx, among others.
October 30: Stitch Up
Bring old clothes and new ideas to this clothing swap and alteration workshop! We’ll provide the machines, tools and expert tips to turn your pre-owned threads into unique garments you’ll love. This event is organized in partnership with Frameworq and Common Energy UBC.
