The University of Reims, France, recruits two tenure-track Assistant Professors in Sustainable Planning with a focus on urban planning, sustainability, environment, including policy and politics. Speaking French is de facto indispensable. Please find attached the job descriptions. In one case, you will be teaching mainly at the graduate level; in the other, you will be teaching mainly at the undergraduate level and you will need to be proficient in GIS.
In both cases, you will join a small but dynamic research team of planners, geographers, some political scientists and some economists. Reims is 45 minutes away from Paris. The Euro-American and Euro-African Programs of Sciences Po are also based in Reims. Another good thing is that, in the French university system, tenure is usually given after the first year of teaching and that we have not yet succumbed to the tyranny of the impact factor.
The down side is that you cannot supervise Ph.D. students at least for the first five years of employment and that there is much room for improvement regarding financial and material conditions. Please bear in mind that French public universities are doing their best to remain affordable for all students. Tuition fees are about 300 euros per year, even in the capital of champagne!
Moreover, every year or so we organize a summer school of sustainability science (GOSES) in collaboration with the Dutch network of universities and research centers on the environment (SENSE). It would be great if the new colleagues could help us!
