International Development Week (IDW) at the Global Lounge

The Simon. K. Y. Lee Global Lounge and Resource Centre will join in the IDW spirit this year by hosting a series of events on the week of February 25, 2013 – March 1, 2013. Movie: Pray the Devil Back to Hell

Hosted by AfricaCanada.org, Pray the Devil Back to Hell chronicles the story of Liberian women who came together and helped end the civil war in their country. The movie will be followed by a discussion and reflection. Watch the trailer here.
The Role and Effectiveness of ‘Band-aid’

Dr. Kishor M. Wasan (Professor & Director and Co-Founder of the Neglected Global Diseases Initiative) and Dr. Blye Frank (Dean of the Faculty of Education) will discuss the impacts of different forms of aid on global health.

With the aim to highlight some current issues surrounding the fair trade and sustainable foods movement, phd candidate Sara Elder will share about her current research investigating the impacts of participating in multinational retail supply chains on smallholder farmer livelihoods and food security in developing countries.
